I know you are used to getting a post about Maggie on Monday but I'm rearranging things a bit this week!
Post-makeover, Cooking Dinner
Last Thursday, I entered a facebook contest a local beauty shop was having for an Oscar makeover. I was offered a free makeover so I left work early (using some floating holiday hours) to take advantage. Seriously, I LOVE MAKEUP! It was a great pick me up for the week I was having last week!
I was greeted by the shop owner who sat me down and asked me a lot of questions about my current routine, what I wanted in a makeup routine and if I was dissatisfied with anything. I gave her the rundown - that I love makeup but really fall back on the same 5-6 products in the same colors and I was ready for a little bit of a change up, but nothing TOO terribly time consuming because let's face it - my makeup application is the last thing I do before taking Maggie down to eat breakfast so she can get a little impatient!
As she was about to begin, she asked me about my brows. My brows were terrible. I don't remember the last time I had them done professionally, and I really did not remember the last time I attempted to take a tweezers to them. Every morning I would look at my almost-unibrow and proclaim that today was the day I was going to make an appointment.
And every day I would forget.
Lucky for me, they had their "brow specialist" from L.A. in town who was sitting reading a magazine. I now had two eyebrows. Yes!
Back to the makeup. I have been to the shop before, and even gotten a makeover there before. They exclusively sell Laura Mercier products (although I think they have recently started offering Kevyn Aucoin as well). I had purchased some products during my previous makeover but was only ok with them.
This time, different products were used and I liked them very much. I also liked how instructional the woman was - She made me watch each step with a hand mirror.
Then, one of the Global Laura Mercier guys that was there for a special event stopped us and added his own flair including purple winged eyeliner (which unfortunately you cannot see too well in the photo above). The lipstick (poppy) was also his special touch.
They included the lipstick for free as part of the experience which was fun, although not something I really need. (Proof: Here are the contents of the small makeup bag that resides in my purse:
Insane. I know.)
I got home at the usual time I get home from the office - just in time to cook dinner!
Nate actually really liked my makeup, which is saying something because he is NOT a fan of a lot of makeup. (He hated the smoky eye makeover I got during our Atlanta trip last fall.) I always tease him that my gift to him on our wedding was getting seriously understated makeup for the day.
Maggie had no reaction that night but later saw the above photo of me and asked me who it was. Seriously. Love that girl!

If you love makeup but don't have time for it, you should seriously consider permanent makeup! I practice here in Florida, but I'm sure you have some skilled artists up north.Look for someone who had attended advanced schools. Eyeliner and lipstick can go a long way in making you appear polished!
